Hello Paul and thank you so much for the deep insight you share so generously with your readers. As photo editor, I have to assign for the first time a couple of photographers to shoot portraits in 3D, not in the sense you talk about in your challenging interview, but simply using a technology which, still with glasses, will allow the viewer to see the images in 3D. I’m very suspicious about this method but I would like to have your opinion about it and to know if you forsee a future for this kind of technique.

Chiara,
For some reason, 3D photography has never excited me, probably because photography, by nature is 2D, flat. 3D photography has been around for a long time, via different format, and has never really picked up. It’s more for games or sci fi websites. It’s a gimmick; I don’t see much future to it in photography world.

To me, the third dimension of photography is the emotion brought in by the talent of the photographer…the rest is artifact.

Let me know when it’s published. Would love to see the result.

Best

Paul M

Thank you so much for your answer which I will quote in the magazine on the occasion of the publication. I’ll send you a copy of the magazine. But please do not blame me: I have no choice…Best, Chiara
